Dear Scouters of the Rough Rider District,
Another great year is about to begin. The new Rough Rider District Team is chomping at the bit to help you and your units. We have been putting together a great team of volunteers that are as committed to the program as I’ve ever seen, who have been spending their summer planning how we can help you, the boys, young men and women in our Packs, Troops and Crews get the most out of what the BSA has to offer.
John Koch, our new District Commissioner has been working hard to reorganize the Commissioner’s Staff. Their job is simply to “help units succeed.” Commissioners are a valuable “first contact” for a pack, troop or crew to communicate or get information from the district. Make sure you click on John’s “Commissioner’s Corner” on the left. He’s got a lot of valuable information there for your unit.
Part of the Commissioner’s service is Roundtable, led this year by Jerry Manning on the Scout side, and Frank Fox on the Cub side. We’re all looking forward to the exciting programs they have in store for us.
Like a pack, troop, or crew, the District needs help to succeed. It’s the little things that we need to help all of our units succeed. Here are some ways you can help:
• Get your unit to sell Popcorn! This helps you AND the Council provide exciting programs.
• Make sure your unit gets and FOS presentation. Again, vital for Council’s programs, but being proactive in letting us know a date that we can make a presentation takes a big load of work off of the FOS volunteers.
• Help with a District Activity. From Cub-Fun Day to Camporee, many of us take part in these activities. Helping out in a small makes for light work for the group. We are all District Members.
• Come to Roundtable! Take great ideas and communication back to your units!
• Consider being a Unit Commissioner. Others can benefit from your experience.
If there’s a way we can better our service to your unit, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Yours in Scouting,
Peter Shields
Rough Rider District Chairman
